listening to: the album, “blunderbuss” by jack white

i love the chronicles of narnia. for a long time, before i got overly sentimental about everything in my life, those books and movies were the only ones that made me cry. (more recently, i will cry over at least two different commercials in a single commercial break) i’ve reread all of the chronicles around five or so times, each time more fully grasping the message that i believe c.s. lewis was trying to convey.

i have many favorite lines from that series (ask my boyfriend, for whom i took the time to take a copy of the chronicles and highlight all of my favorite passages lol), but the one that most recently is helping me through my new life:

when caspian says, in response to being heralded by aslan as a king of narnia, with a whole realm to protect: “but i’m not ready!”
aslan responds: “and that’s exactly how i know you are”

it strikes a chord with me every single time. here i am, a girl just out of college, who has been given 30 lives to protect and mentor and bring into a singular unit. and i feel so so inadequate every time. but the thing is, is that i can do it. and c.s. lewis has helped me believe in the difference of an individual since i started reading his works.

so, much more recently (try two days ago) i finally decided, as a 23 year old woman, to read one of c.s. lewis’ books not intended for children. i have just started the screwtape letters and am enjoying it immensely thus far. it took me a little bit to understand what is going on, and it doesn’t compare (yet, in my mind) to talking animals and aslan and narnia, but i’m excited to delve deeper into it.

one more of my favorite c.s. lewis quotes: brought to me by the lovely pinterest:

“to be a christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because god has forgiven the inexcusable in you”

so, on this first day of lent, try to forgive your neighbors. there is no reason to burn every single bridge you’ve built. i try to exercise forgiveness every single day. believing in the very best in the world allows me to overlook their weaknesses and find that reason that person was meant to become part of the intricate painting of my life.

happy early valentine’s day everyone
(and here’s to a thought provoking and growth inspiring lenten season!)

Yes, forgiveness has to be the answer!

Thank you, Anastasia! I intend to have a thought provoking lenten season and grow spiritually through a series of gatherings on Catholicism! So far it has been time well spent. I go on Thursday evenings for 10 weeks! I owe God so much that I have decided that Wed a.m. Mass isn’t enough and want to participate in Mass on Tues. a.m. also. You, my dear, are one of those blessings God has given. I am a Sat. Vigil participant, rather than Sunday a.m. My family is always in my prayers and my every thought!! Love, Grammy
