on cloud nine

7 Dec

i spent today walking around with a dumb happy grin on my face. after all, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! my apartment is decorated, christopher helped me bring my tree in from our local produce stand (which also sells beautiful trees this time of year), i’m going home again to celebrate christmas in just two weeks, my home is full of beautiful sugar cookies, and today the sun shone for the first time in weeks!

last night i hosted what i hope becomes an annual tradition for christopher and i! our first ever winter solstice party! i grew up in a household that was brimming to the edge with homemade cookies this time of year and i wanted to bring that sentiment to my friends in the area. i requested my mom’s tried and true recipes for cookies and vegtable pizza, but tried some new recipes as well (including german glühwein) and also mixed in some beer pong, which was never part of our parties growing up lol!

here i am with the main party room (i had the beer pong room outfitted with more snacks and cookies!) also that skirt is from http://www.space46boutique.com !

cookie spread! all cookies and frosting were homemade by me (except for the cheap pillsbury ones at the bottom which are christopher's favorite lol)

here's my little bar with homemade glühwein and baileys and mixers!

so about 30 people showed up, from both christopher’s group of vanderbilt med school friends, and my friends from work and school! it was lovely to have everyone here to enjoy some laughs and food and pong and football! excited to see what we’re going to do next year!

with that off my shoulders, i was finally able to turn my attention to our engagement photos which arrived via usps on friday! ariel ( http://www.arielrenaephoto.com/ ) took our pictures and she’s incredible. i was apprehensive to see the pictures because i was afraid my face didn’t make the cut, but WOW i was absolutely blown away. they’re incredible. absolutely incredible. the photos aren’t the over-done “here’s my ring!” “here’s only the bride with the groom’s face out of focus” cheesy photos, they’re genuine and focus on christopher and i’s relationship – which is full of giggles and laughter and joy and love. (those straight face photos are the most difficult thing i’ve done haha) i’m so grateful ariel was able to take the time to take our photos and laugh with us! she’s cemented a very joyful party of our lives!

i’m so grateful for everyone and every single thing in my life. i hope everyone is having a beautiful december and is happily getting ready for christmas! i love my fiance and i love his uplifting support during every step of my (at times) ridiculous life.

here’s to finishing off 2014 strong!

Congratulations! The pictures turned out stunning, plus the background is truly beautiful. How did you choose the right place for the engagement pictures?

thank you so so much! we absolutely love the photos :) and actually, my fiance said one day in passing that he’d like our engagement photos near water! so i asked our photographer if she knew of any good spots on the water nearby, and she recommended our spot! (percy priest lake near nashville!)

Great choice, they are really gorgeous! Thank you for sharing them with us. You guys make the sweetest couple. Did you take any video footage during the photo shoot?

you’re so welcome for sharing them! i figured the internet world would love them too :) and thanks!! also, we didn’t do any video footage. when we originally budgeted out for the wedding we had money for video and photography, but then we found our photographer and went for the most extensive package and decided to go without video.
